Job Qualifications
The Genomic Epidemiologist supports sequencing surveillance, case-cluster, and outbreak investigation and response. Provides coordinated, regional capacity for advanced molecular epidemiologic investigation of infections of public health importance.
Job Responsibilities
- Integrates epidemiologic, clinical, and microbial genomic sequencing data to inform public health action. Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and presents or publishes results.
- Develops and implements strategies for genomic surveillance of pathogens of public health importance, including bacterial and fungal pathogens.
- Participates in investigation and response to regional case-clusters and outbreaks
- Develops standard operating procedures for genomic and epidemiologic activities.
- Prepares written, oral, and visual reports for internal and external distribution. Reports may be directed at experts in the field or the public.
- Conducts relevant training and oversees epidemiologic work of data analysts and other team members.
- Acts as a liaison to regional hospitals and laboratories to facilitate sample and data collection.
- Provides education to regional hospital and laboratory partners on molecular epidemiology and genomics. Develops communication and educational materials for this purpose.
- Assists with development of databases and with data management.
- Documents molecular epidemiologic activities to share through scientific publications and/or presentations.
- Assists with preparation of grant proposals and reports
- Performs independent literature reviews. Analyzes, interprets, and summarizes and reports findings.
- Develops pipelines for analysis of whole genome sequencing data, especially for bacterial

Required Job Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field required.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience working in genomic epidemiology.
- Proficiency in bioinformatics.
- Ability to work independently and to work with complex and diverse teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- PhD in Epidemiology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field preferred.
